In Summary

One of the most underappreciated genres in cinema is easily science-fiction. Cinephiles and moviegoers usually find themselves bored by the simple mention of the genre. Because they believe the plot would be too far from the truth. That could not be farther from reality. The majority of science fiction movies explore humanity. And its perils in such exquisite detail that it forces us to reflect on our own purpose in the universe. It reminds you that while the universe might be unimaginably big, your presence in it isn’t.

If you would like to experience some movies that are completely out of this world (pun intend). have a look at some of our recommendations below.

Interstellar

This masterpiece was direct by Christopher Nolan. Who has proven time and again that he knows just what he is doing. Starring Matthew McConaughey as the lead pilot of the interstellar mission. The movie explores the situation on Earth that is suffering from the consequences of climate change. NASA sends a small crew that includes Anne Hathaway, on a mission, to learn if there is any hope for the survival of the human race. The mind-blowing visuals hit home when accompanied by the heartbreaking soundtrack that will transport you right next to the crew in the Endurance.

Arrival

Dennis Villeneuve hit it out of the park with the critically acclaimed hit of 2016, Arrival. Amy Adams stars as the linguist Louise Banks who is tasked with leading a team of researchers to find out how to communicate with the aliens who seem to have appeared out of nowhere. Alongside Ian Donnelly, played by Jeremy Renner, the two are meant to find out why they have traveled to Earth, while the military breathes down their necks urging for results. The movie expertly navigates how humans would attempt to communicate with an extraterrestrial race, while subtly introducing us to the reality of Louise’s visions.

Inception

Christopher Nolan appears for the second time on our list, this time with Inception. Before exploring space, he ventured further than anyone to explore human dreams. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the extractor, Cobb, the plot follows his efforts to complete a seemingly impossible job, to introduce a new idea in the target’s dreams. The movie is infinitely complex, as their mission includes going further than they have before, with each layer being more precarious than the one before. With an amazing soundtrack, courtesy of Hans Zimmer, you are bound to find yourself engrossed in this one-of-a-kind feature.

Ex Machina

The movie stars Alicia Vikander as the gynoid, Ava, who is to be put through the Alan Turing test by Caleb, played by Domhnall Gleeson. The eerie cinematography and plot pull viewers in and are engaging till the very end.

Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park is a classic that we had to include in this list. The movie was released in 1993, but its visuals still hold a lot of relevance and amusement today. With a combination of practical effects, CGI, and animatronics, the dinosaurs are as real as any other seen since then on screens. The ensemble cast’s wonderful performance, the musical score, and Steven Spielberg’s direction make this movie worth your time.

The Adam Project

The Adam Project was release in March 2022 on Netflix and stars everyone’s favorite, Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds plays a fighter pilot who intends to time travel to 2022 but ends up in 2018 instead, where he meets his younger self.
