Cardi B reveals her hair care secrets when sharing her personal hair mask routine on Instagram! The Bronx beauty loves to share behind-the-scenes photos of herself while getting glammed up, but the last photo she shared with her 14 million followers was truly a showstopper. In it, the 26-year-old appears to be wearing nothing but a pink thong and a shower cap as she applies what appears to be an avocado-based hair mask to her long blond tresses—and wow, does it look incredible! Check out the gorgeous pic below!
On Brushing
There’s no right or wrong way to brush your hair, but one common myth is that curly hair should be brushed differently than straight hair. Some people claim that because curly hair tends to be drier, it doesn’t need to be brushed as often. However, you should always brush your hair after showering and conditioning—regardless of whether it’s curly or straight. Brushing removes tangles and knots before they have a chance to develop into full-blown knots and will help keep your curls looking shiny and healthy. If you have fine hair that tangles easily, consider using a wide-tooth comb instead of a brush so you don’t risk breaking off any strands in an attempt to untangle them.
On Shampooing
I only shampoo once a week. I know that’s probably a little gross, but I let my hair build up so much grease that it takes forever to wash out. My hair is pretty dry, so if you have thicker hair you might want to shampoo every day. If not, then try washing every two days instead of every day like me! – Cardi B on Cosmopolitan Magazine (February 2017 Issue)
On Deep Conditioning
I’m big on conditioning my hair, she says. I always use a deep conditioner and always let it sit in my hair for at least 20 minutes. While many deep conditioners can be on expensive side, you can find cheap ones that will still do the trick (just look for ones with hydrating ingredients like aloe vera).
On Treatments
When in New York City for Fashion Week last month, Grammy Award-winning rapper Cardi B spent a lot of time on hair appointments. I was getting new hair masks, redoing my extensions. I’m all about that, she told PAPER Magazine. I take care of my weave like it’s my skin—like you have to wash your face every day and do all that other stuff you have to do to your skin to keep it looking healthy.
Tips for Curly Hair
The ingredients in hair masks vary, but you’ll want to look for ones that contain moisturizing ingredients like Shea butter, vitamin E and avocado oil. Moisturizing curly hair will make it look healthier and more manageable. Cardi B’s products may be effective for your particular hair type, but a dermatologist can help find out what will work best for you!
Can I use the mask after shampooing?
Absolutely! You may use your hair mask as often as you like, but we recommend starting with once a week to start. The most important thing is to make sure that your hair is clean before using it. After shampooing and conditioning, squeeze out any excess water from your hair and then apply a thin layer of mask across your entire scalp. Be careful not to get any in your eyes! Leave on for 15 minutes and rinse off completely.
What does she use before and after?
My favorite ingredients are olive oil, shea butter, and jojoba oil. I usually put it on my scalp at night and just wash it out in the morning. Olive oil is great for your scalp because you can use it as a moisturizer or a deep treatment. That’s what I do. – Cardi B to Refinery29
