National Testing Agency (NTA) administers the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admission to different undergraduate, integrated, postgraduate, diploma, certification, and research programmes at India’s 45 Central Universities. Several other state and famous institutes in India recognise it as well.

Admissions to undergraduate and graduate programmes at each central institution were handled independently until 2022. For the purpose of standardising the admissions process, the Education Ministry has formed CUET, which will be administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA). A fair shot at success for all students
It is the ambition of every student to be accepted into their desired college or university. Suppression of subjective bias is an important justification for why CUET should be used. To give you an idea, consider a student who wants to major in physics and who performed well in high school, but who was turned down for admission to her dream school because of her lower than average marks in biology and chemistry. It’s a clear example of personal bias. A student, however, may now take a CUET mock test that focuses on their area of expertise, lessening the weight of other courses in 12th grade. Students now have a chance to pursue a career in their field of choice.

According to earlier admissions procedures, students had little influence on their rankings. DU, for example, did not give student rankings because of the 12th merit-based admissions. It sparked a movement of students from one institution to another because of the uncertainty it caused. With the adoption of CUET, students will no longer be left in the dark about their rankings and the schools to which they will be accepted. This rating will help students identify their preferences, enabling them to concentrate on achieving admission to the institution of their choice without trouble or misunderstanding.

Many colleges and institutions are considering changing their cut-off mechanism. Cut-off mayhem won’t last long given CUET’s speed, but it’s time to move on. The CUET merit and 12th grade scores will now be combined into a single admissions exam, and each school will accept admissions based on the CUET merit. Providing students with a fair admissions process for colleges is long overdue.
